WELCOME!

Welcome to Little Messy Learners Hobart — where little hands explore, create, and make their mark!.

We’re passionate about supporting children’s development through purposeful messy play, creative expression, and learning experiences that build strong foundations for life. From scooping and pouring to painting and mark making, every activity is designed to strengthen fine and gross motor skills, spark curiosity, and support early writing development in a meaningful, fun way!

Our sessions are thoughtfully created for children aged 5 months to 6 years, with experiences tailored to each stage of development. We also offer engaging incursions for early learning and community services, along with fun, memorable birthday party packages for children up to 10 years.

Each week brings a fresh and exciting theme, delivered in a child-led, open-ended environment where little learners are encouraged to explore freely, follow their interests, and learn through play. It’s all about building confidence, creativity, and a love for learning — one messy moment at a time.

Meet The Heart Behind The Play

Brooke | Owner & Play Facilitator of Little Messy Learners Hobart

Hi, I’m Brooke—mum of two, Early Learning Educator, and the proud owner of Little Messy Learners Hobart.

My teaching and play setups are deeply inspired by the Reggio Emilia and Montessori approaches, with a strong focus on play schemas and how children naturally explore the world around them. I believe that when we follow a child’s lead and provide rich, sensory learning opportunities, we’re not just supporting development—we’re nurturing confident, curious, and capable little learners.

Little Messy Learners Hobart was born from a deeply personal journey. After the birth of my first child, who was born with a complex congenital heart condition, our early years were filled with hospital visits and uncertainty. In the midst of it all, I found myself searching for a career that gave me not only flexibility as a mum but purpose and connection. I needed something that would allow me to give back to our youngest learners in a meaningful way.

That’s when Little Messy Learners came into my life—and Hobart’s first messy mark-making program was launched.

Through messy play, sensory exploration, and creative expression, I now get to combine my passion for education with the joy of seeing children learn and grow through play. Whether you’re joining us for a term, a one-off session, a birthday party, or a private booking—I can’t wait to welcome your family into our Little Messy Learners community.

Please get in touch if you have any questions about our program and what we offer, and don’t forget to follow us on our social media platforms for updates, tips, and messy inspiration.

FAQ’s

Frequently Asked Questions

Messy play is more than just fun – it’s essential for child development.

Research shows that sensory play strengthens brain pathways involved in memory, problem solving, and language. Activities like pouring, squeezing, and squishing build fine motor skills, while open ended play encourages creativity and social development. Messy Play even nurtures curiosity and scientific thinking, letting children explore and learn through hands on discovery.

“Play is our brains’ favourite way of learning.” – Diane Ackerman

At Little Messy Learners Hobart we follow a set class structure to encourage routine and predictability for our little people.

This is broken down into 4 parts and includes,

  1. Welcome & Introduction – We start with a warm welcome and movement songs to warm up our bodies! During this time, we introduce the day’s Mark Maker, session theme, and highlight any important information about our Messy Play Zones.
  2. Free Play – After the introduction, children can dive into our messy play experiences, where they are free to explore at their own pace. We have a variety of wet and dry textures to touch and explore, along with arts and crafts activities and motor play stations. Children can get hands-on with everything from squishy materials to tactile dry items, sparking their curiosity and creativity.
  3. Tidy Up – After 40 minutes of play, we come together for a quick tidy up, encouraging everyone to pop a few play items into our buckets for wash up. This teaches children the importance of cleaning up, independence, and taking responsibility for their space. Once this task is complete children can wash their hands and faces at our cleaning station, and get themselves dresses into clean clothes (if needed).
  4. Goodbye Dance and Bubbles – We end the class with a fun goodbye song and a round of bubbles, leaving everyone smiling and ready for the next adventure!

Each class is designed to let children explore, play, and learn in a relaxed, supportive environment.
