Hi I’m Cathy, an early years educator and mother of two boys 10 and 16. Over the past 16 years I have raised my family seeking to understand more about their individual sensory needs. Earlier in my career I taught in schools and then chose to teach Kindy in an Early Learning Centre. This is where my love of early years play began.

The activities are purposeful to help children develop core muscles to become ready for writing when they reach school. Whilst children play, parents interact closely by using language to enhance their child’s early learning experience. I encourage parents to use words that describe objects and actions, such as spoon, bowl, fill, pour, scoop, full/ empty, counting quantities together, colour, shapes, scissors, open/shut, turn twist, pull, glue, Left/right top/bottom, the opportunities are endless during our early years play class.
I interact with the children and parents supporting their play using language, demonstrating mark making connecting numbers and letters to the mark pattern of the day and joining in play with tools.
Grab your camera and be ready to share in the delight when your little one is exploring the activities. It’s play time with the emphasis on following your child’s lead, there are different fun experiences each week. These consist of messy creative play, dry activities, fine motor skills, dancing and cognitive activities too. Children will explore, letters, shapes numbers and so much more through their hands on learning and play in the class. Our characters Lionel, Ziggy, Archie and Swirlo make each week a different learning adventure.
I offer two main age groups, – babies and toddlers up to 2 and children aged 18m – 4years. I do this to ensure more activities are aimed at their developmental milestones. Children aged 4+ are often enrolled in a kindergarten program through school. However all messy play is open ended and siblings are welcomed to be booked together.
In our under 2’s, I focus on hand eye co-ordination, grasping tools and the pure enjoyment of messy play with spontaneous music and movement. Parents play a large role in children’s play. They can enhance their child’s brain connections with language describing the actions linked to the mark of the week. Did you know the brain develops rapidly in the first 5 years?
In the toddlers and preschoolers sessions, children improve their fine motor grip through using arm and hand muscles in their whole body play. Extending on arts and crafts, we offer the use of tools such as scissors, glue, brushes, textas, chalk, and paint to express themselves. We also focus on fine motor skills and cognitive skill development too. This is through construction, puzzles, sorting, counting and our introductory mat session where we learn about the movement to make the mark of the week.
Did you know we also offer children’s parties?
Why not get your group together for some spontaneous fun. Email me to discuss your party needs.
