Dinosaur Play for Messy Play!

Dinosaur Play Tray with cornflour gloop!

Kids love Dinosaurs!! And at Little Messy Learners, we LOVE a themed class so Dino Play Tuff Trays are a no-brainer! Read below to find out how to make your own Dinosaur Tuff Tray!

Cornflour Gloop for Dinosaur Swamp Tray

First things first, let’s make your swamp! This wonderful cornflour gloop is PERFECT for messy play and is incredibly cheap and easy to make! Simply…

  • Put water in a pan, add food colouring (I chose green) and bring this to the boil.
  • Then add one pack of cornflour and reduce the heat.
  • Keep stirring and then watch as it suddenly turns into a gloopy consistency.
  • Let it cool, pop it into a container and in the fridge.
  • Leave it in the fridge overnight.
  • DONE!

This jelly like substance is a perfect base for a tray, or can be used more sparingly if you’d like to introduce lots of different textures!

Pea Counting!

Peas are a great (and tasty!) tool for developing fine motor skills! They are fun to squish and are great for sorting, counting and rolling. Grab a pair of tweezers and you have a quick and simple activity. Or add some to your Dinosaur Play Tray!

Oat Footprints for Dinosaur Play!

Dinosaur Play Tray

Simply take dry porridge oats and create foot prints across your tray! Or create dinosaur nests, complete with pea eggs to explore, by piling up oats and hiding them under shredded paper or other materials. Encourage your child to dig through the tray to find the dinosaur eggs – even better if you sprinkle a few plastic toys throughout the tray too!
